KDE se7en Patcher, right, and what exactly it is?
Good question, it is a program based on the Vize code originally written by XPero. Some improvements were made from Vertigosity, author of the Shell Tango Patcher, and by me. I changed parts of the code to suit my needs. Added a couple of lines and solved a couple of minor bugs found. Users of Vize or Shell Tango Patcher might find the experience familiar but many things work different in my build.
OK, and what it does?
It changes Windows 7’s default icons and other resources with the ones extracted from the KDE 4 packages, adds wallpapers from KDE 4 releases.
Good, and what is its purpose?
Isn’t it obvious? KDE is a fantastic UI, but many people are stuck or forced to use Windows, every computer user should be able to enjoy the beauty of KDE. My purpose is to bring Windows closer to KDE 4 experience, i’m quite far yet but i’m makink steps ahead. KDE 4 is running natively on Windows but i wouldn’t recomended that you install it on a production system. If you have a second computer or a virtual machine environment give it a try. Or download Linux distro with KDE 4 UI and enjoy.
And what is KDE?
KDE is one of the two major UIs for Linux (the other one is Gnome). In case you do not know, Linux offers you, among others, the ability to choose from multiple UIs to install and use.
And what the hell is a UI?
UI=User Interface, for Windows Vista and Windows 7 it’s called Aero, in Mac OS X it’s called Aqua, for linux are a couple and more to choose from.
Why don’t you use as base Vize 2 that has just released?
Tricky question dude, Vize 2 is a great project but for me is something completely different from Vize 1. Additionaly the current code suit my needs.
Will you use Vize 2 source in the future?
No, at least that is my decision for now.
That is all?
No, KDE se7en Patcher as its predecesor, KDE Vista Patcher are works in progress. That means that new features and updates are added from time to time.
